Along with string quartets of Mendelssohn and Schubert, SFCRC captures the world premiere of "Intonations: Songs from the Violins of Hope" at a live concert from Kohl Mansion in California. The new chamber piece, written by acclaimed American composer Jake Heggie and set to text by librettist Gene Scheer, movingly commemorates the 75th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The piece relays the powerful stories of strength as told by musicologist and author James A. Grymes in his book “Violins of Hope: Violins of the Holocaust - Instruments of Hope and Liberation in Mankind’s Darkest Hour.” The recording features mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, violinist Daniel Hope, quartet from the San Francisco Opera Orchestra featuring Kay Stern, Dawn Harms, Patricia Heller and Emil Miland, with youth solo violinist Sean Mori.
